Hold more activities/concert/functions that are worthy of going to or staying for. Also have these event in different locations not just at the typical Gullen Mall. This way our students can see and discover more of our beautiful campus. Try the front yard of Old Main for a change. Or even the corner of the Engineering building facing General Lectures. Have fun with it! Hey hey hey -- roof top social!!!

I dig the roof top idea :) But I think the most important thing that needs to happen is seeing the end of the childlike mascot we currently have and replace him with a fierce warrior. A mascot that inspires and sends a message that we are tough and our sports can compete. Something cuddly or peaceful doesn't cut it in football.

Start with the mascot - if we have mascot we can actually center around, we can build from there. School spirit is lacking because school pride is lacking. Find ways to make people proud of Wayne State, and they will want to participate in these things.

Is school spirit really that important? I'm proud of Wayne State because of the quality of education, not because people paint windows before a 'big game.'

I do agree, however School Spirit is not only being proud of being part of a university, its about how we come together and build our own community and thus enticing prospective students to come to this university.

School spirit is to help get students involved in the college lifestyle. Be proud of what you call "quality" education but also be proud of what your peers accomplish, athletically and academically.

Thank you all for the response to the topic. I am the Student Council Athletic Committee Chair. As a committee we have been working on several objectives to increase the participation, following, and spirit behind Wayne State University athletics. I have been continuously meeting with the Athletic Director and his collegues about what they can do to increase athletic pride. This is a great start to what we can do to change the lack of athletic spirit at this instituion. Please feel free to continue to give us your ideas or contact me through sc.wayne.edu Thank you CEF

Does anyone have any suggestions for upcoming fall football season events to get more students to come out to the tailgates and games? If you are interested in joining Student Senate Athletic Commitee, contact dz0928@wayne.edu Thank you CEF

I think we need a more exciting athletic website. Make it like a Sportscenter type energy. Who are the fball players? I know some but how well do they play? What's their personality? People knew J. Bell not just because of his performance, but his personality off the field. If we have players who are willing to be on camera or hsve their profiles raised, i think it's a good idesa. I think Wayne has an amazing athletic prograsm. We excel innearly every sport (M & W)Get the players to be at other campus events, meeting students, etc. Also if you need ideas, reach out to the student groups directly. Im not sure too many of us know you need feedback. Yes, Im apart of 2 student groups. We're looking to hype up anything about WSU

I think the fact the WSU has lots of commuters effects school spirit, because most just go to class, then go home or to work on a routine basis. Maybe the times of the games can be a little later in the evening? This gives ppl a chance to get to the games after priorities are met. Oh & night games are exciting too!
