Quality of Restrooms on Campus

Date Posted: October 1, 2009
The bathrooms on campus are frequently understocked and in need of maintenance. Some of the bathrooms on campus, such as those in the Student Center, could also use an update.

I think the cleanilyness of the campus needs to change, its not just the bathrooms

It would be nice if the stall doors actually had locks too.

Most of the bathrooms are clean, but something needs to be done about the ladie's bathroom in the basement of the Purdy Kresge. It is never thoroughly cleaned and is always in a state of array. Someone needs to spot check it and clean AND Disinfect it at least twice a day.

OOps. sorry, I did not mean Purdy Kresge, I meant the Science & Engineering Library. The bathroom gets used a lot because of the two labs down there.

Having attended Wayne on and off since 1980 I can say that in general the campus and the restrooms are better now than then. However, a few are almost always messy or in need of maintenance. State Hall's updates did not go far enough. The "blade style" hand dryers I've seen in other locations might help avoid the paper litter problem and still get your hands dry.

The restrooms should be checked more often. State hall gets lots of traffic, and consequently, the ladies restroom is ALWAYS out of soap. Two urgent points, though. Ladies, please, please start washing your hands. Yes, you. I mean with soap AND water. Second, would you girls pit out YOUR bathrooms like this? Try treating it like it was your own. Throw out your paper towels, and quite urinating on the seats, and try flushing. Then the bathrooms wouldn't be so bad.

Is it that bad? I've always assumed that women's restrooms were a lot cleaner than men's. I guess I learned a valuable lesson.

Most of the restrooms are not well-kept, despite the fact that this is supposed to be a professional place. With the cost of tuition, etc., why can't they at least give us quality restrooms? We're paying to be here. Restrooms should not be our concern, so somebody should maintain something like this already. I've had a soap dispenser fall off the wall as I attempt to get some soap. And why are there still so many toilets and sinks that are covered for some hazardous reason? I think if the bathrooms were fixed up and properly maintained, maybe it would encourage people not to carelessly mess it up.

I agree. Many of the bathrooms around campus need some serious work. Some of the stalls in the ladies' room in the student center are basically falling apart.

some of these bathrooms are comparable to port-a-potties

The worst one I encounter is almost ALWAYS bad....back down the hallway of the first floor of the UGL. The men's room by the Fire Exit & drinking fountains. Also the sanitizers are a good idea, but not when they become empty by noon.

The bathrooms in the Engineering building really need work. They usually smell like urine too.

Hey Everyone, Thanks so much for your responses! I'm the Student Services Committee Chair & this is one of our primary concerns right now! Student Council has gotten emails, in addition to VYO, from students who are upset with the bathrooms. I emailed the Senior Director of FP & M to set up a meeting about improving the quality of the bathrooms. I will be sure to bring all your concerns to him. Thanks for voicing your opinions!! I would also like to add that I spend a lot of time studying in State Hall and I have been to bathroom in that building many times over the past three years. I would say about 80% of the time, there is no hand soap. I find this absolutely disgusting. Most bathrooms have multiple soap dispensers, yet all of them seem to be empty. Everyone knows that right now is a critical time to be practicing cleanliness, with the H1N1 in full effect and the seasonal flu creeping up on us, I would just like to say, PLEASE Wayne State, make sure there is soap in the bathrooms 100% of the time.

Every time this happens where there's no soap you should call that number listed in the bathroom where they say they clean once per day but to call if there's a problem. That would give data where they need to replenish soap more often.

Indeed! Despite the fact that this is supposed to be a professional place. With the cost of tuition, etc., why can't we at least have quality restrooms? We're paying to be here. The upgrades to the Education building bathroom is the perfect example of what our bathrooms should look and smell like. Its my recommendation that there be renovations be made to the Student Center bathrooms at least on the basement, first, second and third floors. These bathrooms are dated and have no rhyme or reason to them. Engineering building men's room first floor ALWAYS HAS A FOUL ODOR! Time to renovate the Richard Cohn Building bathrooms as well. It's time to upgrade!!
