Blackboard is an awful clumsy tool for collaborative work in an online environment. But greater then that if there is any type of online education component in any program there has to be the infrastructure to support it. Specifically in regards to the SLIS program, which is a degree that is quickly becoming solely online, there is not enough technological support for faculty to adequately design classes that even contain lectures. I have had a few horrible online classes that did not even offer a lecture, and had minimal feedback from the professor. If online degrees are going to become a reality they must utilize a tool that is more compatible with a collaborative and dynamic environment. Currently Blackboard is a substandard content delivery system, which is a counter intuitive system in a web. 2.0 environment.
Also, taking away the physical classroom hasn't done anything positive for students that are interested in getting a quality education at WSU.
I am taking three online classes right now. I am so frustrated and disappointed with all of them. I feel that these classes are a waste of my time. Two classes use outdated youtube videos as the primary sources of information for students. One class is so unorganized that I missed two assignments due to lack of communication and clarity. Take mind that I am an A and B student who takes school serious. Who monitors these classes to make sure that they are educational? Yes, I will get A's in all of these classes, but will I learn anything? Doubt it. I am unhappy with Wayne State as a whole, but these online classes are so terrible I can't imagine that a professor gets paid for "teaching" this. It is so unfortunate that I pay thousands of dollars to this institution for this kind of education. I know many people would be happy with these online classes because they are easy-As but does WSU really strive to be a university that lets people slide by with As for little to no effort? How Frustrating! I would barely consider this higher education.
There needs to be a better online program!! There are hardly any online classes available; which may contribute to the retention rate of students who can't make it to campus.
I am taking Engineering Economics online right now and it is the most complicated thing I have ever done in my life. I am spending several hours watching youtube videos instead of getting a quality education in the classroom and paying the same price for it. The book is mediocre and the power point presentations are pitiful. I pretty much paid around $1,000-$1,500 for some guy to post homework online every week and give me such complicated explanations to the things I did wrong that I just give up on them. Online class at WSU from my experience is horrible. Please revise them!

Blackboard is fine, but needs to update the Discussion Board format.
